The drive for setting up this event came from a strong belief that Orkney has a crucial role to play in the future development of renewable energy projects based on:

• a combination of wind, wave and tidal resources
• a long history of wind energy projects
• Stromness being the location for the European Marine Energy Centre
• an established track record of technology development
• the diverse local expertise in power, engineering and environmental disciplines

Our first conference and exhibition was held in October 2002. The success of this and subsequent events, alongside the exciting ongoing developments in renewables in Orkney mean that Renewable Realities events are important annual events in local, national and international terms.
